H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

August 28, I930 CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS Daily average volume of Federal reserve credit outstanding during the week ending August 27> as reported by the Federal reserve banks, was $983 000 000 a decrease of $21,000,000 compared with the preceding week and of $363 000 000 compared with the corresponding week of 1929. ' ' On August 27 total reserve "bank credit amounted to $984,000,000, a decrease of $2,000,000 for the week. This decrease corresponds with increases of $11,000,000 in monetary gold stock and $2,000,000 in Treasury currency offset in part by an increase of $6,000,000 in money in circulation and of $5 000 000 in member bank reserve balances. ' Holdings of discounted bills decreased $3,000,000 during the week, the principal changes being decreases of $3,000,000 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and $2,000,000 at St. Louis and an increase of $2,000,000 at Boston. The System's holdings of bills bought in open market increased $4,000,000 and of Treasury certificates and bills $2,000,000, while holdings of Treasury notes declined $3,000,000.
