STATEMMT FOR THE PRESS Released, for publication a-^xf Friday morning, Jan. lb; Federal Reserve Board not earlier. , January 15> 1931* CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BASKS The average daily volume of Federal reserve bank credit outstanding during the week ending January l4 as reported by the Federal reserve "banks was $1,175,000,000, a decrease of $120,000,000 compared with the preceding week and of '$138,000,000 compared with the corresponding week in 1930. On January l4 total reserve "bank credit amounted to $1,111,000,000, a decrease of $137,000,000 for the week. This decrease corresponds with decreases of $133,000,000 in money in circulation and $5,000,000 in unexpended capital funds, etc., and an increase of $23,000,000 in monetary gold stock, offset in pari by an increase of $20,000,000 in member bank reserve balances and a decrease of $3,000,000 in Treasury currency. Holdings of "bills discounted decreased $49,000,000 during the week, the principal declines being $18,000,000 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Hew York, |l4,00b,000 at San Francisco, $5,000,000 at Cleveland and $4,000,000 at Chicago. The System's holdings of bills bought in open market declined $69,000,000, of U. S. "bonds $10,000,000 and of Treasury notes^$12,000,000, while holdings of Treasury certificates and bills increased $6,000,000.
