STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Heleased for publication Board of Governors Friday morning, Aug* 75 of the Federal Reserve System not earlier• August S, 1936 CONDITION 01 FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS The daily average volume of Federal Reserve bank credit outstanding during the week ended August 5» as reported "by the Federal Reserve banks, was $2,^70,000,000, an increase of $2»000,000 compared with the preceding week and a decrease of $6,000,000 compared with the corresponding week in 1935* On August 5 total Reserve bank credit amounted to $2,^63,000,000, an increase of $2,000,000 for the week. This increase corresponds with increases of $40,000,000 :.n money in circulation and $23,000,000 in nonmember deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts, offset in part by an increase of $2,000,000 in monetary gold stock and decreases of $11,000,000 in member bank reserve balances and $Ul,000 000 in f Treasury cash and deposits with Federal Reserve banks* Member bank reserve balances on August 5 were estimated to be approximately $3,050,000,000 in excess of legal requirements* Relatively small changes were reported in holdings of discounted and purchased bills, industrial advances, and United States Government securities.
