August 17, 19bk- CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS During the w^sk ended j^ugust 16 njember bank reserve balances increased $125,000,000» Increases in member bank reserves arose from a decrease of $170,000,000 in'Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks and increases of/creases $78,000,000 in Reserve Bank credit and $2,000,000 in gold stock, offset in part by La of $110,000,000 in money in circulation, $5,000,000 in Treasury cash and $11,000,000 in nonmember deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts.. Excess reserves of member banks on August 16 were estimated to be approximately $1,000,000,000. There was an increase of $9,000,000 in holdings of United Stated Government securities} bills increased i^o,000,000,while bonds decreased S32,000,000 and notes $$,000,000. ‘ . . .
