R. 283 STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Released for publication Board of Governors Friday morning, Sept. 29; of the Federal Reserve System not earlier, September 28, 19Wt CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS During the week ended September 27 member bank reserve balances decreased $90,000,000, Reductions in member bank reserves arose from an increase of $100,000,000 in money in circulation and decreases of $294,000,000 in Reserve Bank credit and $60,000,000 in gold stock, offset in part by decreases of $17,000,000 in Treasury cash, $216,000,000 in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, and $130,000,000 in nonmember deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts. Excess reserves of member banks on September 27 were estimated to be approximately $900,000,000. There was a decrease of $39,000,000 in holdings of United States Government securities* bills decreased $103,000,000, notes $5,000,000 and bonds $5,000,000 while certificates increased $7u»000,000.
