February 1, I9U5' CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS , During, the.-week ended January, 31#- member bank reserve balances decreased $201,000;000* Reductions in member bank reserves arose from decreases of $21,000,000 in -gold stock, and $2,000,000 in Treasury currency and increases of $115, 000,000 in money in' circulation, $169,000,000 in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks and $235*000,000 in nonmember deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts,, offset in part by an increase of $332,000,000 in Reserve Bank credit and a decrease of $10,000,000 in Treasury cash. Excess reserves of member banks on January 31 were estimated to be approximately $1,000,000,000« Holdings of loans, discounts and advances increased $35*000,000 and of United States Government securities $336*000,000. The increase in holdings of United States Government securities resulted from an increase of $392,000,000 in Treasury bills and a decrease of $5,000,000 in bonds.
