May 2, 191*6 CONDITION OF' THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS During the week ended May 1 member bank reserve balances increased $290,000,000, Additions to member bank reserves arose from increases of $183,000,000 in Reserve Bank credit and $1*,000,000 in gold stock and a decrease of $11*8,000,000 in nonmember deposits &nd other_ Federal .Reservo accounts, offset in part by increases of $21*,000,000 in ireasury; deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, $11,000,000 in money in circulation and ,000,000 in Treasury cash* .Excess re serves of member banks on May'1 were.estimated to be approximately $1,080,000,000. Holdings of loans, discounts'and advances decreased $99*000,000, while hold ings of United States Government securities increased $275,000,000. The increase in holdings of United States Government securities reflects increases of. $288,000,000 in b ills and $11*7,000,000 in notes and a decrease of $159,000,000 in certificates.
