H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS During the week ended May 15, member bank reserve balances decreased $99,000,000. Reductions in member bank reserves arose from a>n increase of $190,000,000 in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks and a decrease of $3,000,000 in gold stock, offset in part by an increase of $33,000,000 in Reserve Bank credit and decreases of $8,000,000 in money in circulation and $52,000,000 in nonmember deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts. Excess reserves of member banks on May 15 were estimated to be approximately $840,000,000* -Holdings of loans, discounts and advances decreased $61,000,000 and of United States Government securities $72,000,000.
