BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (Released for Implication Saturday Morning, Jun& 1; n0^ earlier) E.k.l May 31, I9I46 CONDITION OF THE INDERAL RESERVE BAMS During the week ended May 29, member bank reserve balances increased $18i| 000,000* Additions to member bank reserves arose from an increase of f $U2J4,000 000„in Reserve Bank credit and a decrease of $28,000,000 in nonmember # deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts, offset in part by a decrease of $3,000,000 in gold stock and increases of $1^5*000,000 in money in circulation, $119,000,000 in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, and $3,000,000 in Treasury cash. Excess reserves of member banks on May 29 were estimated to be approximately $820,000,000. Holdings of loans, discounts and advances increased $7h*000,0Q0 and of United States Government securities $3lj0,000,000. The increase in holdings of United States Government securities reflects a like increase in bills.
