BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (Released for Publication Friday morning, October k; not earlier) H.U.I October 3, I9I16 CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS During the week ended October 2, member bank reserve balances increased $191,000,OQO« Additions to member bank -reserves arose' from decreases of $571,000,000 in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks and $160,000,000 in nonmember'deposits and other Federal Reserve accounts and an increase of $5,000,000 in gold stoc£,offset in part by a decrease of $U^5»000,000 in Reserve Bank credit and increases of $78,000,000 in money in circulation and $22,000,000 in Treasury cash. Excess reserves of member banks on October 2 were estimated to be approximately $9i|0,000,000, Holdings of loans, discounts and advances decreased $76,000,000 and *6f United States Government securities $311,000,000. The decrease in holdings of United States Government securities reflects decreases of $130,000,000 in bills . and $258,000,000 in certificates and an increase of $78,000,000 in notes;.
