H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERA LRESERVE SYSTEM H.U.I (For Immediate Release) June 29, 1950 CONDITION OF THE FEDERA LRESERVE BANKS During the week ended June 28 member ban kreserve balances decreased $181 million. Reductions in member ban kreserves resulted from increases of $337 million in Treasury deposits with Federa lReserve Banks, $100. millio nin money in circulation, $40 million in noiimembe rdeposits and other Federal Reserve accounts, and $12 million in Treasur ycash holdings ,offset in par tby increases of $306 millio nin Reserv eBank credit and $4 million in Treasury currency. Excess reserves of member bank son June 28 were estimated to b eapproximately $520 million. Holdings of loans, discounts a naddvances decreased $5 million, while holdings of Unite dStates Government securities increased $538 million, the latter change reflecting increases of $460 million in certificates and $230 million in notes and decreases of $146 million in bill sand $6 million in bonds.
