H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERA LRESERVE SYSTEM H..4.1 (For Immediate Release) August 21, 1952. CONDITION OF THE FEDERA LRESERVE BANKS Member Bank Reserves and Related Items During the week1ended August 20, Member bank reserves increased $131 million. The principal changes supplying reserves were an increase of $257 million in Reserve Bank credit and a decrease of $25 million in Foreign deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were increases of $104 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, $25 million in Other deposit swith Federal Reserve Banks, and $17 million in Money in circulation. The increase of $257 millio nin Reserve Bank credit resulted from increases of $208 million in Loans, discounts and advances and $68 million in Float, and a decrease of $19 millio nin U. S. Government securities. The decrease in holdings of U. S. Government securities was entirely in certificates.
