H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

BOARD OF GOVERNORS For Immediate Release H.4.1 OF THE FED1EAL RESERVE SYSTEM July 14, 1955 WEEKLY AVERAGES OF MEMBER BANK RESERVES, RESERVE BANK CREDIT, AND RELATED ITEMS and STATEMENT OF CONDITION OF THE FEDERA LRESERVE BANKS The weekly average of Member ban kreserve balances for the week ending July 13 increased $170 million to $18,779 million. The principal changes supplying reserves were an increase of $306 millio nin Reserve Bank credit and decreases of $49 million in Other deposit swith Federal Reserve Banks and $12 million in Treasury cash holdings. The principal offsetting changes were increases of $118 million in Money in circulation, $58 million in Foreign deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, and $20 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, Estimated average excess reserves of member bank sfor the week increased $217 million to $734 million. The increase of $306 millio nin average Reserve Bank credit for the week resulted principally from increases of $251 millio nin U. S, Government securities bought outright and $55 million in Float. As of Wednesday, July 13, holdings of U. S, Government securities bought outright were $99 million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreement were $4 million lower, and Member bank borrowings were $96 million lower.
