BOARD OF GOVERNORS For Immediate Release H.4.1 OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM September 18, 1958 WEEKLY AVERAGES OF MEMBER BAN KRESERVES, RESERVE BANK CREDIT, AND RELATED ITEMS and STATEMENT OF CONDITION OF THE FEDERA LRESERVE BANKS The average of dally figures of member ban kreserves for the week ending September 17 increased $93 million to $18,572 million. Estimated required reserves increased $6l million; and estimated excess reserves increased $32 million to $687 million. Excess reserves exceeded member ban kborrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $124 million, compared with $l4 lmillion the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserves were increases of $166 million in Federal Reserve float and $4-9 million in member ban kborrowings, and decreases of $174 million in Treasury deposits with Federa lReserve Banks, $40 million in money in circulation, and $37 million in "other" deposit swith Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were decreases of $232 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright and $73 million in gold stock, and an increase of $67 million in foreign deposits with Federa lReserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $17 million. As of Wednesday, September 17, holding sof U. S. Government securities bought outright were $166 million lower than a week earlie rand member bank borrowings were $257 million lower.
