BOARD OF GOVERNORS For Immediate Release H.li.l OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM January 19, 1961 WEEKLY AVERAGES OF MEMBER BANK RESERVES, RESERVE BANK CREDIT, AND RELATED ITEMS and STATEMENT OF CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended January l8 decreased a net of $18 million to $19,208 million; cash allowed as reserves decreased $75 million and member bank reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $57 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $131 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $113 million to $693 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $658 million, compared with the revised figure of $529 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were an increase of $52 million in Federal Reserve float and a decrease of $350 million in currency in circulation• The principal offsetting changes were decreases of $157 million in Federal Reserve holdings of U. S. Government securities and $35 million in gold stock, and an increase of $115 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $126 million. As of Wednesday, January 18, holdings of U. S• Government securities bought outright were $80 million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreement were $13 million lower, and member bank borrowings were $4 million lower.
