U .I OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM January 26, 19ol WEEKLY AVERAGES OF MEMBER BANK RESERVES, RESERVE BANK CREDIT, AMD RELATED ITEMS and STATEMENT OF CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS The average of daily figures of total member "bank reserves held during the week ended January 25 increased a net of $136 million to $19, U30 million. Cash allowed as reserves decreased $77 million and member hank reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $213 million. Estimated required reserves decreased . $18 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $154 million to $947 million. Excess reserves exceeded member hank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $900 million, compared with the revised figure of $758 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were an increase of $211 million in Federal Reserve float and a decrease of $323 million in currency in circulation. The principal offsetting changes were decreases of $l46 million in Federal Reserve holdings of U. S. Government securities.and $104 million in gold stock, and an increase of $98 million in "other" deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $7% millipn As of Wednesday, January 25, holdings of U» S. Government securities bought outright were $164 million lower than a week earlier and member bank borrowings were $2 million higher. Outright holdings of bills, certificates, notes, and bonds decreased by $133 million, $10 million, $13 million, and $8 million, respectively.
