F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release November 9, 1961 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended November 8 decreased a net of $75 million to $19, 677 million. Cash allowed as reserves decreased $271 million and member bank reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $196 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $40 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased million to million. $35 $509 Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $418 million, compared with the revised figure of $470 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $443 million in Federal Reserve holdings of U. 8. Government securities and a decrease of $45 million in "other" deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were a decrease of $108 million in Federal Reserve float and increases of $167 million in currency in circulation and $32 million in foreign deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit incieased million. $356 As of Wednesday, November 8, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government $256 securities held under repurchase agreement were $40 million higher, and member bank borrowings were $204 million higher. Outright holdings of bills, certificates, notes, and bonds, increased $120 million, $35 million, $60 million, and $4l million, respectively.
