F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks „ . For immediate release H.4.1 December 21, 1961 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended December 20 increased #91 million to $20,233 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased $120 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $371 million. Estimated required reserves increased $415 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $76 million to $641* million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $535 million, compared with the revised figure of $528 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve "balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $69 million in member bank borrowings and $877 million in Federal Reserve float, and a decrease of $32 million in foreign deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were decreases of $327 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright and $4l million in gold stock, and increases of $135 million in currency in circulation and $l4o million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $621 million. As of Wednesday, December 20, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $302 million lower than a week earlier and member bank borrowings were $254 million higher.
