F E D E R A L R E S E R V E mu Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For iimediate release H.4.1 August 30, 1962 The average of daily figures of total member hank reserves held during the week ended August 29 decreased a net of $113 million to $19,895 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased ^90 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $203 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $45 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased $68 million to $495 million. Excess reserves exceeded m^ ef,bo'nkirD°^°^^;e at the Federal Reserve Banks by $422 million, compared with the revised ngure of $407 million the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal ^ Reserve Banks were decreases of $397 million in Federal Reserve float, $83 million in member bank borrowings, and $35 million in gold stock. The principal oiisetting changes were an increase of $129 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright, and decreases of $133 million in currency in circula ion a $51 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Ban, credit decreased $3^2 million. As of Wednesday, August 29, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $270 million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreement were $85 million lower, and memb bonk borrowings were $426 million lower. Outright holdingo o^ 1 s, cor 1 , notes, and bonds increased $93 million, $30 million, $94 million, an $53 mi ion, respectively.
