F E D E R A L R E S E R V E Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks F°r immediate release 1963 August 8, The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during 7 the week ended August increased a net of $249 m illion to $19,897 m illion. $276 Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased m illion and their $525 reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased m illion. Estimated required reserves increased $54 m illion; and estimated excess reserves increased $195 m illion to $1*87m illion. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at $89 the Federal Reserve Banks by m illion, compared with the revised figure of $ll*9 m illion the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $329 m illion in U. S. Government securities $28 $255 bought outright and m illion held under repurchase agreement and m illion in member bank borrowings, and a decrease of $149 m illion in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were a decrease of $56 m illion in Federal Reserve float, and increases of $142 m illion in currency in circulation and $48 m illion in "other" deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. $563 Total Reserve Bank credit increased m illion. 7 As of Wednesday, August , holdings of U. S. Government securities $8 bought outright were m illion lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreement were $91 m illion lower, and member $686 bank borrowings were m illion higher. Outright holdings of b ills decreased *7 $ll m illion; notes and bonds increased $64 m illion and $75 m illion, respectively.
