F E D E R A L R E S E R V E Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks „ For immediate release h A.i August 29, 1963 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended August 28 decreased a net of $115 m illion to $19,542 m illion. Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased $79 m illion and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $194 m illio n. Estimated $86 required reserves decreased m illion; and estimated excess reserves decreased $29 m illion to $375 m illio n. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $101 m illion, compared with the revised figure of $110 m illion the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal $369 Reserve Banks were a decrease of m illion in Federal Reserve float and an increase of $39 m illion in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The $125 principal offsetting changes were an increase of m illion in holdings of U. S. Government securities and a decrease of $122 m illion in currency in circu­ lation. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $266 m illion. As of Wednesday, August 28, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $190 m illion higher than a week earlie r, U. S. Government $50 securities held under repurchase agreement were m illion lower, and member bank borrowings were $282 m illion lower. Outright holdings of b ills , notes, $25 and bonds increased $112 m illion, m illion, and $53 m illion, respectively.
