F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. feittks For immediate release H..4.1 August 13; 1964 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended August 12 increased a net of $9 million to $20,56^- million- Esti mated currency and coin of member banks decreased $95 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $10^ million. Estimated required reserves decreased $109 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $118 mil lion to §h6k million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $88 million, compared vith the revised figure of $86 mil lion the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $117 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright and $l68 million held under repurchase agreements, $llb million in member bank borrowings, and $9^ million in Federal Reserve float. The principal offsetting changes were increases of $229 million in currency in circulation and $195 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit in creased $501 million. As of Wednesday, August 12, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $130 million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements vere $119 million lower, and member bank borrowings were $572 million lower. Outright holdings of bills decreased $230 million; notes and bonds increased $5 million and $95 million, respectively.
