y.o'qiis^- F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release August 26, 1965 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended August 25 increased a net of $15 million to $21,527 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased $95 million and their re serve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $80 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $57 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $72 million to $398 million. Member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks exceeded excess reserves by $l48 million, compared with the revised net borrowed figure of $165 million the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were decreases of $78 million in Federal Reserve float, $66 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright, and increases of $112 million in "other" F. R. accounts (net), $60 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were increases of $64 million in U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements and $55 million in member bank borrowings, and a decrease of $83 million in currency in circulation. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $25 million. As of Wednesday, August 25, 1965, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $77 million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $174 million higher, and member bank borrowings were $126 million higher.
