Banks For immediate release October 21, 1965 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended October 20 increase $55^ million to $22,260 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased $185 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $369 million. Estimated required reserves increased $358 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $196 million to $^9^ million. Member bank borrowings at the Federal Researve Banks exceeded excess reserves by $97 million ccmpared with the revised net borrowed figure of $197 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $^93 million in Federal Reserve float, $96 million in member bank borrowings, and $32 million in U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements, and a decrease of $125 million in "other'1 F. R. accounts (net). The principal offsetting changes were a decrease of $325 million in U. 3. Government securities bought outright, and increases of $3^ million in currency in circulation, and $32 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $286 million. As of Wednesday, October 20, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $700 million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $207 million lower, and member bank borrowings were $557 million lower.
