H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release November k 1965 } The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended November 3 increased a net of $2^9 million to $22,089 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased $70 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $319 million. Estimated required reserves increased $73 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $176 million to $368 million. Member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks exceeded excess reserves by $118 million, compared with the revised net borrowed figure of $l46 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $537 million in U. 3. Government securities bought outright and $lU8 million in member bank borrowings and a decrease of $48 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were a decrease of $28l million in Federal Reserve float and increases of $95 million in "other" F. R. accounts (net) and $8l million in currency in circulation. Total Reserve Bank credit increased §khQ million. As of Wednesday, November 3, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $1,039 million higher than a week earlier and member bank borrowings were $269 million higher.
