H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release June 8, 1967 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended June 7, increased a net of $1^9 million to $23,207 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased $168 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $317 million. Estimated re-quired reserves increased $159 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased $10 million to $361 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $284 million, compared with the revised figure of $269 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $212 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright, and $171 million in Federal Reserve float, and a decrease of $138 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting change was an increase of $2W- million in currency in circulation. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $397 million. As of Wednesday, June 7, 1967; holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $176 million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $323 million lower, and member bank borrowings were $325 million lower. Outright holdings of bills, notes, and bonds increased $62 million, $66 million, and'#-8 million, respectively.
