Banks H.4.1 For immediate release January 11, 1968 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended January 10, decreased $502 million to $25,912 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased $262 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $240 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $459 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased $43 million to $578 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $398 million, compared with the revised figure of $126 million the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were decreases of $315 million in member bank borrowings, $140 million in U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements, and $83 million in acceptances held under repurchase agreements, and an increase of $105 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting changes were an increase of $65 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright, and decreases of $343 million in currency in circulation, and $74 million in "other" deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $539 million. As of Wednesday, January 10, 1968, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $736 million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $255 million lower, and member bank borrowings were $129 million lower.
