F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and :?<sfs^- Condition Statement of F.R. Banks H.4.1 For immediate release July 5, 1968 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended July 3, decreased $440 million to $25,762 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased $108 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $332 million. Estimated required reserves increased $39 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased $479 million to $87 million. Member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks exceeded excess reserves by $406 million, compared with the revised figure of $241 million the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were decreases of $314 million in member bank borrowings, $146 million in U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements, and $66 million in Federal agency obligations held under repurchase agreements, and an increase of $204 million in currency in circulation. The principal offsetting changes were an increase of $420 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright, and a decrease of $149 million in "Other" Federal Reserve accounts (net). Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $72 million. As of Wednesday, July 3, 1968, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $351 million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $97 million lower, and member bank borrowings were $93 million higher. Outright holdings of bills, notes, and bonds increased $257 million, $45 million, and $49 million, respectively.
