H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions

.•rtf-SSKsi:- F E D E R AL R E S E R VE s t a t i s t i c al r e l e a se ••?f*ra£ H.4.1 For immediate release August 7, 1969 The average of daily figures of total reserves of member banks increased $401 million (net) in the latest week to $26,966 million. Required reserves rose, in part reflecting the mid-July Treasury financing. Excess reserves increased while member bank borrowings declined. Increases in currency in circulation and other Federal Reserve liabilities and capital were the major factors draining reserves in the latest week. More than offsetting these reserve drains was a reduction in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, providing reserves. In addition, System Open Market operations supplied over $700 million reserves on a weekly average basis. More than half of these reserves were provided through repurchase agreements. Member bank borrowings declined $180 million, on weekly average, and ex ceeded excess reserves by $923 million, compared to the revised figure of $1,166 million for the previous week.
