H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions
F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bonk Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release October 30, 1969 The average of daily figures of the total reserves of member banks declined $407 million in the latest statement week to $27,197 million. Required reserves and excess reserves declined while member bank borrowings increased to a level slightly above the average for recent weeks. Float was the principal factor draining reserves in the latest week, declining about $600 million. A moderate seasonal decline in currency in cirulation offset part of the net drain from other factors. System Open Market operations absorbed $350 million on a weekly average basis, reflecting primarily outright sales of U. S. Government securities and matched sale-purchase transactions. About $200 million of matched sale-purchase transactions were outstanding at the end of the week. Member bank borrowings exceeded excess reserves by $1,070 million, compared to the revised figure of $862 million for the previous week.
