H.4.1 Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions
F E D E R AL R E S E R VE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and ondition Statement of F.R. Banks H.4.1 For immediate release March 11, 1971 The average of daily figures of total reserves of member banks decreased $66 million to $29,451 million. Required reserves also decreased while excess reserves and member bank borrowings at Federal Reserve Banks increased. An increase in float was the only factor supplying a significant amount of reserves in this latest statement week. Reserves were drained by a greater than seasonal rise in currency in circulation and an increase in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. In addition, System Open Market operations absorbed $438 million of reserves net, on a weekly average basis. Member bank borrowings rose above the average of the past two weeks and exceeded excess reserves by $291 million compared to $146 million for the previous week.
